It is a small moment that can change the whole outing: the zip catches, the two sides will not stay together, or a curious nose finds a gap in the canopy. Suddenly you are watching the closure more closely than the path ahead.
A pet stroller enclosure needs to close fully, remain correctly engaged and suit the animal inside it. Check the zip or latch, the surrounding mesh and the seams as one system. If any part has failed, keep the stroller out of use until the seller has assessed it.
Start with the whole enclosure
A good-looking canopy photograph does not show every opening. Look around the front, back and sides, including where fabric meets the frame. Ask how each access point closes and whether there are gaps when everything is secured as instructed.
Pay particular attention to the corners. Are seams neatly joined? Is the mesh firmly attached? Does fabric pull tight when you close the canopy? A closure under obvious tension deserves a closer look, including a check that the stroller is assembled correctly.
What to check on a zip
Try the zip with the stroller empty and fully open in its normal operating position. It should follow its track without you having to yank the canopy into place. Keep loose fabric away from the slider and use the method shown in the manual.
- Look for missing or distorted teeth and gaps behind the slider.
- Check whether the pull is easy for you to hold and reach.
- Open and close it several times, including the corners.
- Ask how grit, pet hair and moisture should be cleaned away.
- Confirm what to do if the zip separates after being closed.
Do not use your pet to test whether a suspect zip will hold. A closure that repeatedly separates needs assessment, even if it can be pushed back together for the moment.

Is a zipperless pet stroller better?
A latch or magnetic canopy closure may be easier for some people to operate than a long zip. That can matter if you find small pulls fiddly or regularly open the carrier to help your pet in and out.
The useful question is how the particular mechanism works. Ask for a demonstration of correct engagement and release, and check that you can tell when it is closed. A “zipperless” label by itself does not establish durability or make a stroller escape-proof.
The Uppapets Flander lists a magnetic canopy closure and a detachable carrier. If convenient access is a priority, include those features in your comparison alongside cabin fit and the instructions for securing your pet.
Manufactured in China, Uppapets draws on its team's 20 years of baby stroller manufacturing experience and pet stroller development since 2021. Experience and feedback from pet families also inform the range.
Here, Uppapets Australia is an Australian-owned business offering local customer service and replacement parts. The people behind your purchase are another useful part of the decision.
Mesh and seams deserve their own inspection
Mesh needs to remain intact around its edges as well as across the middle. Look for pulled stitching, fraying, holes or a panel beginning to detach. Inspect the floor-to-side joins too, rather than stopping at the visible canopy.
If your pet scratches, chews or persistently pushes at an enclosure, pause the outing. More forceful restraint is not a substitute for helping them settle or choosing a more suitable transport arrangement. Supervision remains essential with every stroller.
Follow the manufacturer's directions for any internal restraint and compatible harness. It is an additional part of the setup, not permission to use a damaged enclosure or leave an animal unattended.
Check fit with the canopy closed
A pet can be under the weight limit and still be too tall or long for the usable cabin. Ask for internal measurements with the canopy closed, including headroom, rather than relying on a photograph of a pet sitting in an open stroller.
Allow your pet the room the manufacturer specifies to sit and settle comfortably. Start with our pet stroller measuring guide; for cats, also consider the temperament and introduction advice in our cat stroller guide below.
What to do if a closure fails
Secure your pet somewhere appropriate, stop using the stroller and photograph the fault. Send the seller your model, order details and a clear description of when the problem occurs. Avoid glue, tape or improvised fasteners as a way to keep using a failed enclosure.
Can I add a blanket over torn mesh?
A blanket does not repair containment and can obstruct airflow or your view of your pet. Have the damaged panel assessed and follow the manufacturer's repair or replacement advice.
What should I ask before ordering?
Ask to see the complete opening and closing sequence, the care instructions and the support process for damaged fabric or a failed closure. Clear answers are more useful than a broad promise that a stroller is “secure”.
