A large dog pram needs enough capacity for your dog and enough usable cabin space for the way they rest. It also needs to fit the person handling it, the entrance to your home and the car you use. Checking all four can prevent an expensive mismatch.
If you are searching for a pram for a 30 kg, 40 kg or 50 kg dog, use that number as your first filter. Then move on to measurements. Two dogs in the same weight bracket can have very different body lengths, heights and turning needs.
Separate the pet limit from the stroller’s own weight
“Maximum pet weight” describes the stated limit for pets riding in the cabin. “Product weight” describes the pram itself. They answer different questions: can the model support the passenger, and can you manage the equipment?
Never exceed the listed limit or assume unused storage capacity can be added to it. For shared rides, count the combined weight of all pets. Then check the instructions for baggage, accessories and individual storage areas separately.
Measure the dog who will actually ride
Measure your dog lying in a comfortable position, including the space their paws occupy. Check their seated height and allow room to change position without pressing against the sides or canopy. Breed labels such as “Labrador size” are a starting point at best.
Mark a proposed cabin footprint on the floor and compare it with their normal resting space. This is a useful first screen, not a substitute for confirming the interior shape, openings and usable height. Our measuring guide covers the questions to send with a fit enquiry.
A worked example: Camper Max
The current Uppapets Camper Max specifications list a maximum pet weight of 100 kg. That high limit still needs to be read alongside the cabin measurements; it does not mean every dog under 100 kg will fit.
- Cabin: 82 × 46 × 70 cm.
- Open frame: 110 × 75 × 106 cm.
- Folded frame: 110 × 75 × 49 cm.
- Product weight: 21.3 kg.
- Carrier: non-detachable, with a one-piece fold.
Dimensions above are length × width × height, converted from the millimetres on the product page and checked in September 2026. Confirm the current specifications before purchasing.

Plan the entrance and the transfer
Before choosing any large pram, ask how your dog gets into it. Confirm the entry opening and height, whether assistance is needed, and which loading method the manufacturer permits. A roomy cabin does not automatically make boarding easy.
If your dog has pain, restricted movement or is recovering from treatment, ask your vet how to support them during transfers. Do not encourage a jump into or out of the cabin simply because your dog can manage one on a good day. Apply the brake for loading and unloading, and have help available where needed.
Check the widest part of the journey
A 75 cm-wide frame needs a suitably clear route. Measure the actual opening between a door and its frame, not just the nominal door size. Look at tight corners, lift doors, garden gates and the space around parked cars.
Next, mark the folded footprint in the boot. With a 21.3 kg pram, the height and reach of the lift matter as well as whether it fits. Plan to move the empty stroller separately from your pet. If you cannot manage the lift comfortably, resolve that before ordering rather than hoping the fold will make the weight disappear.
Decide how you will handle a loaded pram
Consider the combined mass of the pram, pet and permitted belongings, especially on slopes. Choose routes and distances you can control comfortably. Suspension and large wheels do not remove the need to follow the model’s surface, speed and brake instructions.
Camper Max has push-and-pull handles, PU wheels with suspension and a one-link brake. Check the manual for how to use each feature. A tow handle is not permission to attach the stroller to a bicycle or vehicle.
Questions worth asking before you order
Will a 50 kg-rated pram fit my 30 kg dog?
Possibly, but the weight comparison alone cannot tell you. Check cabin length, width, usable height and the entry arrangement against that individual dog.
Can two dogs share a large pram?
Only when the model permits it, their combined weight is within the limit, both have sufficient space and they are comfortable together. Follow the restraint instructions for each passenger; spare kilograms do not create spare floor space.
For a useful fit enquiry, send your dog’s weight and resting measurements, your narrowest doorway and your boot opening. Those details help turn “big enough?” into an answer you can use.
