You have found the cottage, chosen the dates and pictured the first coffee of the weekend. Before you book, there is one more conversation to have: what does staying here with a pet actually involve?
A pet-friendly label is a starting point. Ask the host about your particular booking, from who is coming to where breakfast happens. These are the details worth settling before the bags come out.
Confirm the room, not just the property
Tell the host which pets you are bringing and how many. Ask them to confirm that the exact room or cottage you want is available for that stay. If you have selected a package through a booking site, check that the pet is included in the reservation.
For example, Ovolo’s V.I.Pooch offer is limited to certain room types and requires booking through the package or directly with the hotel. Its terms also ask guests to arrange a second dog in advance. A general hotel listing cannot answer those room-specific questions.
Ask for the complete price
Request the total for your dates, including any pet charge, additional-pet fee and cleaning charge. Ask whether each amount applies per night, per pet or once per stay. If a deposit is required, find out when it is taken and returned.
Read the cancellation terms for the rate you are choosing, too. A flexible rate and a prepaid package may have different conditions. Having the full amount in the confirmation makes it easier to compare two stays without guessing what will appear on the final bill.

Picture a day at the property
Ask which shared spaces you can use together: reception, gardens, terraces and dining areas. Where would you have breakfast? Is room service or takeaway an option? If you plan to go out, ask about the unattended-pet policy before making a separate reservation.
QT’s Pup Yeah! FAQs, for instance, say dogs must not be left alone in the room. Knowing that detail changes how you organise dinner, rather than discovering it when you arrive.
Make arrival straightforward
Confirm check-in time, parking arrangements and the entrance you should use. For a holiday house, ask how keys are collected and who to contact after hours. Find out what is provided—bowls, bedding or towels—and what the host expects you to bring.
Finish with one short email confirming the room, dates, pets, total price and agreed arrangements. Then turn to the enjoyable part: choosing your first stop and packing for the stay. Our overnight packing list covers the everyday items to gather next.
