A weekend away should not require packing the whole house. Start with the things you use on an ordinary day with your dog, then add what your accommodation does not provide.
This is an everyday packing list for the stay itself: meals, overnight belongings, clean-up items and a small bag for outings. Confirm the property’s inclusions first, then pack from the list below.
Pack for each mealtime
Count the meals that fall between departure and your return home. Pack your dog’s usual food, the scoop or serving utensil you use, food and water bowls, and any food-storage items you normally need. If your usual food needs refrigeration, confirm the facilities with your accommodation before booking.
Keep those items together in one bag or container. For a shared trip, tell the other person what you have packed so you do not arrive with two bags of food and no bowls. Include the treats you ordinarily bring on outings, if any, without turning the weekend into a new shopping list.
Make a small overnight kit
Ask the host what is already in the room before adding bulky items. Some pet packages include bowls and bedding; others have different inclusions. Bring the items you use at home that are not provided, keeping the property’s house rules in mind.
- Your dog’s usual bedding or blanket, if needed.
- A towel reserved for your dog.
- A favourite toy, rather than the whole basket.
- Waste bags and the clean-up items you normally carry.
- A separate bag for used towels and other items coming home to the wash.
Leave a little space in the bag on departure. It is much easier to repack on Sunday when every item does not need to return to one exact position.

Separate the day bag
Keep the things you will take out each day apart from the overnight kit: your usual lead, water, a bowl, waste bags and any other items already part of your routine. Add your own phone, wallet and booking details.
If you are bringing a stroller or other equipment you already use, include its everyday accessories in your packing check. There is no need to take every accessory you own; start with the outing you have actually planned.
Keep the booking details close
Save the address, arrival instructions, host’s contact number, parking information and pet confirmation where both travellers can find them. Check the departure time before planning a long Sunday breakfast, and ask where used towels and rubbish should go.
For a final check, picture the first meal, the first night and the first outing. Anything missing? Add it now, close the bag and leave the rest at home. If you are still choosing a stay, begin with our questions to ask before booking pet-friendly accommodation.
